Making the Most of Your Photoshoot

Pinterest Style

Photographs for special occasions can be a once-in-a lifetime event so a little extra thought should go in to the process.  Who you choose to take the pictures is probably the most important decision, but where to get them taken and what to wear are also very important decisions too.

When choosing your photographer, be sure they are known for their creativity.  They should have original ideas that will make your pictures stand out from all others.  They should be open to using whatever your passion is and incorporating it into the shoot.  They will also have some ideas of their own from their experiences that you may not have thought of.  Having a good working relationship together will help make your photos better than you could imagine.

Where to have your photographs taken is the next major decision you need to make.  You may wish to have them taken in an indoor setting.  Maybe portraits are what you have in mind.  Your photographer will probably have some great backdrops and props for you to use.  Or you may want to use a dance studio, historic building, theater or other setting, especially if the weather is less than ideal.  Most places are very receptive to being used for this as long as you are respectful of their time and property.  Ask ahead of time and plan your shoot around their schedule.

Mother Nature can provide the most spectacular settings for a photo shoot.  This may be something like this beautiful lavender field shown in the above photo (you can see more on this link ).  Mountain backdrops, large trees or boulders, and old barns or vehicles can also make for some amazing pictures.  The time of year for outdoor photos is also a big factor.  Autumn can provide the most amazing colors, while winter wonderland can make some great pictures for snow lovers.  The natural lighting and stark colors found in nature can make it unforgettable no matter what scene you choose.

Knowing where you will have your photo shoot will determine what you will wear.  White or light colors tend to make a person look “washed out”, so it is usually best to opt for darker, more vibrant colors.  You may choose contrasting colors or, like the beautiful lady in the above photo, coordinate with your chosen backdrop.  If using old barns or vehicles, denim could be a great choice.  Use your imagination and creativity and you will come up with a great idea that suits your personality.  Or take more than one outfit and see which ones look better once the pictures are taken.

No matter who, what or where you choose, the most important thing is to have fun!  The natural smile and glow on your face will make your photographs amazing.  Be sure to talk to your photographer often before your shoot.  With everything decided ahead of time, the big day will be more fun, less stressful and the pictures will be spectacular!!
