Everyone that is planning a wedding knows they need to get themselves a professional photographer. You’ll want to look back on this very special day in your life and be able to remember the wonderful family and friends, the love and the joy surrounding this event. Wedding photos are one of the most powerful ways to capture this magic in time. But how do you pick the right photographer and get the pictures that capture the moment just right?
Choosing a photographer can be a hard job. Wedding photographers are diverse and unique, offering different perspectives and styles. You need to decide what the feel and mood of your wedding is, and find someone that can highlight the event in the best way possible. Are you looking for traditional photos, or fun and funky snapshots? Do you only want formal, posed portraits, or candid photos throughout the entire day? Make sure that you check with your photographer to ensure they work in the way you’d prefer to get the shots you want.
Also be sure to check your photographer’s portfolio. A good wedding photographer will have thousands of photos for you to look through, with many being available online. Check it out. Find photos you like and make notes. And never go with a photographer whose portfolio you dislike or find boring. If you’re not getting giddy just looking at the amazing shots they’ve captured of other couples, don’t go with that photographer. You should be flipping through the portfolio thinking “I want that one,” “and that one,” “and THAT one!”
Finally make sure that you have a good working relationship with the photographer. Go and meet them for coffee or maybe lunch and chat about your big day. While the photographer is on the fringe of the event, looking at it through a lens, they’re there the entire day dawn to dusk capturing your precious moments. If you don’t have a good professional camaraderie, they won’t get the best pictures. You want someone that feels like a friend and that cares about you and your big day enough to get in there, stay focused and get the get the right shot.
