I know I seem to share quite a bit of personal information on my blog, but in my line of work, it is hard not to share at least some of who I am and what I do in my spare time.

I love to read.

I love bookstores as much as I love to read. While I do dearly love the small, quaint bookstore that is nestled back in a corner of an ancient alley, there is equally something special about the vibrant and bustling activities of a Barnes & Noble.

This time, however, I was able to combine my love of books, philanthropy and my community in one fell swoop. It is rare that all three opportunities come together at one time, so I was excited to be a part of the Barnes & Noble’s event in Roseville, California.

James Rollins is a New York Times Best Selling author, and his Sigma Force series is very popular with those who enjoy the military fiction genre. I was privileged enough to be there during a recent visit of Rollins with his newest book, The 6th Extinction and the tenth in his Sigma Force series.

Rollins founded the Authors United for Veterans organization, a group that raises money for wounded veterans through the USA Cares group. A portion of the sales of the new novel will go to that organization.

If this were not enough, Rollins collected 700 of his books and delivered them to Beale Air Force Base.  While there, he entertained several of his fans and even shared the illustration for the new book.

Of course, hanging out in a bookstore for most of an evening was not a bad thing to do either.

I love my job.
