Workshop in Mallorca, Spain
So I had been invited along to attend a mentoring retreat/workshop to take some photographs – but when I found out it was all the way overwas a workshop in Mallorca, Spain. I absolutely couldn’t pass up the chance! This was definitely one of the most exciting shoots I have ever done if only because of the people, location – and the adventure!
So this was on the first day when the group were being introduced. The two teachers are a mother-daughter team and are quite lovely. They wanted me to do some shots of the group work, and of the area and accommodations, to give potential clients a good idea of what they do.
The group leaders have an emphasis on quality local produce, and thoughtfully supply snacks throughout the day.
During the mentoring program you care constantly reminded of the beauty of the local area.
Group members are encouraged throughout to problem solve and are given help and instruction freely, wherever it is needed.
Feedback and frequent discussions also help everyone to stay on the same page.
No members of the group are left to struggle on their own.
Some of the food laid out was as pretty as it was delicious. We wanted for nothing while we were in the care of our tutors!
I made sure to get everyone together for a few group shots during working so hard.
And once the first day was over it was off to the beach, Mallorca, Spain style! Some of the mountainous views around the area are the most picturesque I have had the chance to capture. I made myself a promise to return one day and go hiking!
The fabulous mother and daughter team responsible for the mentoring program.
One of my favorite ways to photograph people is when they aren’t looking! She never suspected a thing…
The offices and apartments were well tended, clean, smart – and fairly opulent.
After our evening of leisure it was back to the board room for day 2!
The weather was so superb on Day 2 that we moved the discussion outdoors… The pleasure of doing a workshop in Mallorca, Spain!
This is my favorite shot of everyone together, facing their mentor! A lovely commemorative keepsake that I hope they enjoy as much as I do!
So I took this shot a few moments after I had caught this lovely lady posing for a smile. You can see the concentration on her face as she works – but I loved the way the light fell on her most. The balcony window in the offices really helped me out with a lot of the lighting.
We tried different poses and angles o get just the right portrait shot, but I still prefer the off-center approach. It adds an abstract feel that matches the electric blue of her dress.
One of my favorite shots of the whole workshop! We were messing around in the gardens and she spun. The movement and flow is just so magnificent.
On the final day we went hard for the ‘magazine-worthy’ photographs that would properly advertise the business. We had an absolute blast and everyone who attended ended up firm friends and an inspiration to one another. I can only wish these two innovative ladies all the best in the future. I know I had a great time… I mean, how could you not? It’s a workshop in Mallorca, Spain!
