Headshots Fashion Week

Headshots Fashion Week

Raul came to me because he is a young model in need of a few headshots Fashion Week and his growing portfolio. Every model needs head shots as a necessity; but I wanted to give him something really memorable that helped him pop off the page for casting directors. I know how hard it is for fellow artists to find work, so whenever someone comes to me for head shots I always try to make them extra special…every little counts in this business.

A good set of head shots always includes a smiling shot. It’s meant to be natural, it’s supposed to show a less professional side… but it’s rarely as warm and endearing as the beaming smile I got from Raul. This was one of the few we took in the studio, with a softer neutral background and a daylight bulb for that natural look. He really stands out against the neutrality and brightens up the whole image. We decided to get serious, partly because it made a striking image where Raul is just arresting the viewer with his eyes: and partly to show his different expressions and sides. We took it outside to give a sort of about-town vibe. The overall effect was pretty abrupt. I love it.

We took a lot of natural pictures that were sort of accidental poses on Raul’s part – proving that he has a talented career ahead of him in modeling. Coming from farther away allows you to see the full outfit – but it also demonstrates this young mans distinctive ability to draw the eye in with his gaze. 10 out of 10 Well done Raul.

We got a few closer shots that demonstrate a range of emotions and a little versatility in the model. Casting Directors will look at things like the angle he holds his chin in different shots, the way he uses his hands and his posture to make their decision.

Raul nipped in for a quick costume change while I found us a new spot for some further work for headshots fashion week. We took a few relaxed poses like this one, where you can almost imagine him waiting for his date to show up, but we also wanted some full lengths.

Being a model isn’t just about the head shots. The model is effectively the clothes hanger, and their job is to show the garments in the best possible light. Couple a nice outfit with some high end photography and you receive shots like this, where everything comes together to make a little magic!
