Nonprofit Organizations Unite-Leadership Summit

Nonprofit Organizations Come Together

Event Photography by Emilie Bourdages

These days it is harder than ever to run a nonprofit organization. Getting the word out has never been easier, but getting people to pay attention to the message is the harder part. There is so much information and marketing bombarding us it can be a challenge just filtering it and getting to the important parts all at the end of a day.

The Placer Community Foundation brought together more than 50 nonprofit organizations from Placer County to learn how to operate in today’s information-overloaded world. The conference was held at Sun City Lincoln in the Orchard Creek Lodge. It had a great turnout and following the event everyone seemed full of renewed energy and plans to go out and continue to make a difference in our community.

Andy Goodman, a national speaker, author and consultant for non-profit organizations, helped us all learn more. His expertise is helping others present their story, especially nonprofit organizations. This was a major coupe for the annual event. Andy’s presentations were spot-on and gave everyone what they needed to better tell what their operations do.

With cuts to public funding, our nonprofit organizations have to look for other funding sources. Andy talked about that and how to ask for-profit companies and individuals to invest in the non-profit’s work. Big companies have money set aside every year in their budgets for charitable contributions, but getting that money requires a solid and quality story about how the money will be used and that’s where Andy really excelled.

With around 350,000 people in Placer County, there is both a lot of need for the work nonprofit organizations do, and even more for educating to explain what they do and how they help.

Planning for next year’s event is underway and I would love to hear from you and all our non-profits on what we need to do to help get you more awareness in the community.

Ways I help already nonprofit organizations and plan on continuing to help out:

  • Social Media & Blogging about events
  • Inviting friends/philanthropists to donate
  • Recruiting volunteers to actively participate
  • Photographing & video coverage of events
  • Submitting my photos of events for publication

My images from this event are published in Auburn Journal and Zoom Newspaper.
