Teacher of the Year

Regular readers of my blog will no doubt recognize that I am a huge fan of my hometown, charities and giving back. Recently, I had a chance to really participate in giving back to the community with those who form the backbone of it, our teachers! Why I loved covering teacher of the year for Placer County 2014.

This year’s teacher of the year reception and award ceremony was held at The Flower Farm Inn in Loomis, California, and I was on hand to snap photos, meet and greet and also talk to those who have a hand in shaping our future by shaping the minds of the students.

Placer County Schools honored two teachers last month on September 8th in Loomis. Katy Desai of Bowman Charter and Kim Bair of Woodcreek High were received as the elementary/middle and high school teachers of the year respectively.

Katy is a math teacher who also helps with choreography in the choral program and is also the girls’ volleyball coach. For Kim’s part, she is heavily involved with the New Student Outreach that helps students connect with others in their own school, something that many have thought little to do.

The entire affair was sponsored by the Placer County Board of Education and was catered under the direction of Carissa McCrory’s ROP culinary career technical education program. The event was made possible by Gayle Garbolino-Mojica, Placer County Superintendent of Schools; Kindra Amalong, Teacher of the Year Coordinator, and all the phenomenal teachers who make a difference in the lives of students, parents, and peers every year.

Each year, teachers are chosen from their respective districts for the “Teacher of the Year.” Two are selected from the whole district, and those two teachers go on to represent Placer County in the state teacher competition.

Meanwhile, Fall is here and Homecoming season is upon us, along with the Christmas card rush. I’m currently booking one month out, but would love to the opportunity to take your photos. How can I help you create lasting memories?
