Cathy Kurtz

Losing a loved one is never easy. Cathy Kurtz is no exception to having experienced this, but she is an extraordinary example. At the tender age of 16, she lost most of her family to a plane accident and then another family member to AIDS.

Her then husband was no better, treating her terribly until their divorce. The ultimate culmination of her experiences was violence in her workplace. For some, this is more than enough to suffer a meltdown, but Cathy instead was productive and wrote a book about her situation.

I was there to photograph her and the presentation of her book Living Through Pain – The Lonely Me. The event was a part of a small business event targeted to women business owners and the main business highlighted was 27 Bath and Body. I met and photographed all the female business owners that participated in the event. It was a nice to see other entrepreneurial women like myself.

Cathy talked about her book and reasoning behind the writing. It was really an enlightening experience to have her come and talk. It was great to see a group of women, who share a common bond unite for a worthy cause. Cathy took negativity in life and turned it into something positive and productive, very admirable.

This is just another example of my love for photography and my drive to be successful. It is events such as this one that I hope will encourage others to follow their dreams and overcome situations that seem insurmountable, just like Cathy did.
