Comic Con

Bay Area Ghost Busters

I have a secret.

A deep, dark secret that I am now willing to share, it’s time. I am a comic nerd at heart and it’s been this way my entire life for as for as far back as I can remember. Seriously. I live for Comic Con in Sacramento, California, watching cosplay where people dress as heroes, villains and anime characters, and cult-classic movies. It’s fun and I love the novelty of it all.

Ghostbusters is a cult-classic. The writer and star, Harold Ramis, passed away a few weeks ago, but the memory of his work lives on in cosplayers.  One such group is the Bay Area Ghostbusters. This team comes out each year at Comic Con and other conventions to entertain the crowds and show off their awesome ghost busting equipment. It’s super loud, and according to the Ghost Busters Franchise is a, “Proton Pack: a reportedly unlicensed nuclear accelerator which fires a proton stream that polarizes the negatively charged energy of a ghost allowing it to be held in the stream”. You can feel this noise from this machine, it’s pretty intense.

The Bay Area Ghostbusters are a nonprofit group that works within the Bay Area with various fundraisers and civic events.  Some of their larger works include the A-1 Comics Food Drive, various parades and cosplay shoots for kids.  Everything they do is for somebody else, very admirable.

There are more than the four original busters from the film, but they do what they do because of the love of the movie, their community and the children especially.

They are always looking to help out in some way shape or form.  You can learn more about them on their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/TheBayAreaGhostbusters/info or take a look at their up and coming website: http://www.bayareaghostbusters.com/

I look forward to seeing them again at the next big social and civic event.
